Andrew Currie
Not the first Scot to do great things in Canada – think MacKenzie, Fraser, Bell, etc - but he will be the first to start a traditional farm-based distillery here, legally anyway. In the space of a few years, Currie has gone from being a journalist with a small obsession with Scotch Whisky to the driving force behind two start-up distilleries (Isle of Arran and Lakeland Distillers in the English Lake District).
Together with his father, who was Managing Director of then Seagram-owned Chivas Regal, Andrew has learned what it takes to start a distillery from scratch.
Fresh from these ‘overnight’ successes, Currie has taken on the daunting task of producing a single malt whisky in Canada that might one day take its place with the great Scotches of the world.
